Goldenfields Water hosted a number of enthusiastic Year 11 and 12 chemistry and geography students over the past two weeks at their Jugiong Water Treatment Plant, demonstrating first hand the water processing system.

This was the second year Goldenfields Water have offered the unique and specialised study day to local schools, with Coolamon Central, Temora High and Young High taking up the opportunity to bring their senior students along.

Goldenfields Water Community Education and Engagement Officer Emma McAuley said “we created these study days to offer schools the opportunity to visit our treatment plant, see first hand how we treat water and participate in real life water testing experiments with our water quality staff.”

Depth Days are based on research into the NSW school curriculum and cover topics relating to HSC Chemistry, Geography and Investigating Science.

“It’s great that we can support student learnings and demonstrate in real life what they are being taught in the classroom. Everything we offer at our Depth Days can be related back to their relevant HSC subject,” said Ms McAuley.

Coolamon Central School Head Science Teacher, Simon Lyons agrees "it was great to be able to apply the theory based learning on chemical reactions and separating processes to a practical setting; and carry out a range of analyses using the highly sophisticated technology used at the Jugiong plant."

Besides supporting senior students with their upcoming HSC exams, Depth Days enables Goldenfields Water to educate and engage the communities they serve about the importance of their region’s drinking water supply, water efficiency and sustainable water practises.
