Level 3 water restrictions for Daylight customers

Published on 05 December 2022

Goldenfields Water County Council advises customers located on the Daylight Scheme (which includes the townships of Weethalle, Tallimba, Naradhan and the surrounds) that the current level 5 water restrictions have been eased to level 3, effective today.

Goldenfields Water stresses that the decision to lift restrictions has not been made lightly, due to the entire scheme operating at only 50% of its capacity.

Goldenfields Staff were able to re-energise one bore to provide partial production to maintain the system; however, it is unknown how long this arrangement will remain operational. If that bore fails due to any unforeseen measures, water production will cease, and residents will be forced back to level 5 restrictions immediately.

Close monitoring of the schemes reservoirs over the weekend has indicated levels have slowly increased in capacity, after Goldenfields Water staff were able to access the site last week and temporarily re-charge one bore. However, we need customers to remain vigilant in their water consumption as it is unknown how long it will be to bring the water supply infrastructure back up to 100% operational capacity.

Whilst the reduction in restrictions has been undertaken, Goldenfields advises that each individual connection will be continually monitored for usage and large consumers may be limited with physical restrictors to ensure equality and longevity of the water supply.

Level 3 water restrictions include:

Domestic Use

  • 140 litres/per person/per day
  • Sprinkler and soaker hoses banned
  • Use of handheld hoses or watering cans may only be used between 5.00pm – 7.00pm
  • Filling of swimming pools and spas is banned
  • Washing of motor vehicles must be done bucket washing, trigger hose or pressure cleaners for rinsing

Commercial/Rural use

  • Stock and animal drinking water ONLY
  • Hygiene, schools, childcare centres – trigger hose or pressure cleaner for hygiene cleaning purposes
  • Crop spraying and bulk water usage is banned unless you have called the GWCC office on 6977 3200 (between Monday – Friday, 9am – 4.30pm) and registered for SMS alerts.  Crop spraying may be restricted if reservoir levels drop below a critical level of 70%.  Any rural customer who doesn’t abide will have a physical restrictor placed on their meter
  • Construction water use banned

All customers must be aware that a sudden implementation of level 5 restrictions is very possible, and we strongly advise all customers to contact the Goldenfields Water office and register their contact details, so they can receive urgent updates as they occur.

Goldenfields Water wishes to apologise for any inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience during this period of restriction.

Under the Local Government Act 1993, the maximum penalty that may be applied for a breach of imposed water restrictions is $2,200.

Notice is hereby given under Regulation 137 of the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005, which permits the use of water to be restricted if there is a shortage of supply. This notice has been in effect from 5th December 2022 and will remain in effect until varied by further notice.
